Mercedes Benz Unveils Hotter C63 AMG 507 Edition

Mercedes Benz has once again reshaped the foundations of its C63 AMG lineup with the official unveiling of the 2014 C63 AMG 507 Edition which replaces the old Development Package variant, and brings more muscle and new technology to the company’s M3 fighter.

The exterior styling of the 507 Edition retains many of the lines and curves seen on the standard C63 but adds several touches that help the car stand out from its lesser siblings. These include model-exclusive 19 inch forged alloy wheels, rocker panel mounted “AMG sport stripe” decals, and a vented hood that is cribbed from the limited production C63 AMG Black Series. The 507 Edition is available here in the U.S. in either coupe or sedan variants; European customers have access to an exclusive wagon body style.

The performance-oriented interior of the 507 Edition also carries over relatively unchanged from the standard C63 AMG, but uniquetouches such as an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, red instrument panel trim, model exclusive badging, and high gloss black piano trim pieces scattered through out the cabin add a distinct flair to the cabin and should do an excellent job differentiating the 507 Edition from the rest of the C63 lineup.

Powering the C63 AMG 507 Edition is the familiar 6.2 liter V8 that sees duty in the standard model but just like the Development Package that preceded it, AMG engineers have made several significant upgrades to the engine in the quest for more performance. A new set of forged pistons, connecting rods and a lighter camshaft borrowed from the SLS AMG GT supercar shed precious pounds and also increase horsepower to a solid 507 horsepower – a 56 horse gain over the 451 horsepower wielded by the standard C63 AMG. Torque figures have also seen a similar increase, and now ring in at 450 lb ft which represents a 7lb ft gain versus that of the standard car. All of this power is sent to the rear wheels through a 7 speed automatic gearbox that is carried over from the standard C63 AMG and allows the 507 Edition to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in a scant 4.1 seconds before topping out at a lofty 174 mph.

Interested in putting a 507 Edition C63 AMG in your garage? The 2014 Mercedes Benz C63 AMG 507 Edition will make its formal debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show in March with sales expected to begin sometime this summer. In an interesting twist, the 2013 Geneva Motor Show is also where rival BMW will be unveiling their next generation M3 sport sedan, and it will be interesting to see whether the 507 Edition can steal the spotlight from one of its fiercest competitors.
