Aston Martin Unveils Updated Rapide S Model

With upcoming pedestrian safety regulations set to take effect in Europe in the near future, Aston Martin has formally unveiled the 2013 Aston Martin Rapide S which brings new technology, muscle, and styling to the sleek and elegant four door for the 2013 model year.

The majority of the styling changes for 2013 can be found in the front fascia of the Rapide S which now features a new hood, revised front bumper and a bigger Zagato-influenced grille. which all work together to allow the Rapide S comply with upcoming European pedestrian safety regulations while retaining much of the elegant and purposeful lines that made the original Rapide a hit with Aston buyers. The rear fascia of the Rapide S retains many of the familiar styling cues that first made their debut on the original Rapide, with a reworked deck lid the only noticeable change for 2013. Buyers looking to add an extra dollop of performance inspired styling to their purchase can opt for the new Carbon Exterior Pack which adds carbon fiber accents to a majority of the exterior trim pieces.

The interior of the 2013 Rapide S also changes very little from the previous generation model and retains much of the basic layout and design elements that made their debut on the original Rapide. However, the company has now added a sportier piano black color scheme to the mix of available hues as well as the debut of new red and black Duotone perforated leather accents to add some much needed color to the cabin. As is the case with many of the company’s other products, buyers can choose from a dizzying array of optional equipment and packages to make their Rapide S a truly special place to be.

Along with the new exterior styling, Aston Martin engineers have also revamped the Rapide S’s performance hardware to be faster and stronger than the previous-generation Rapide. Power for the big Aston comes from a mighty 5.9 liter V12 engine which churns out a healthy 550 horsepower and a stout 457 lb ft of torque (a gain of 80 horses and 14 lb ft) which is a sizable improvement versus the numbers generated by the old Rapide. All of this velvet-lined muscle is channeled to the rear wheels through a reworked 6-speed Touchtronic 2 automatic gearbox that promises to deliver faster shifts and allows the Rapide S to dash to 60 mph in a quick 4.7 seconds before topping out at 190 mph.

To ensure the Rapide S can also deliver the world-class handling and driving dynamics that all Aston Martins are known for, the Rapide S has been equipped with the latest version of Aston Martin’s Adaptive Damping System which tailors the Rapide S to a wide variety of driving situations. The system has three different modes Normal, Sport, and Track with all three modes easily accessible at the flick of a switch.
