Ford Unveils 2013 Fiesta Van

Ford has officially unveiled the latest, and smallest, member of its European commercial vehicle family – the 2013 Ford Fiesta Van.  It promises to bring utility and practicality in a smaller more fuel efficient package for buyers that may not want a Transit Connect or a Transit full-sized van.

Exterior styling on the 2013 Fiesta Van retains the basic profile and many of the stylish cues that are found on the standard Fiesta but with a few minor tweaks. Ford engineers have painted the rear windows to achieve a look similar to that seen on many panel vans while base models feature steel wheels and plastic hubcaps. Buyers looking for a dash of style can replace the steel hoops with optional 17 inch alloy wheels.

The majority of the changes however are found in the interior of the Fiesta Van where Ford engineers have shelved the rear passenger bench seat to increase cargo room to a healthy 35.3 cubic feet which will please small business owners that do not need the 130 cubic feet of space found in the bigger Transit Connect van. A rubber floor mat and special sidewall trim help protect the cargo area from damage while four strategically placed cargo hooks keep bigger loads in place during long trips. However, despite its intent as a commercial vehicle, the Fiesta Van does retain many of the same features and comforts found in the standard Fiesta hatchback. This includes the company’s familiar SYNC infotainment system, a rear mounted backup camera, Ford’s MyKey (which allows business owners to keep tabs on their employees’ driving habits), and a clever safety feature called Active City Stop which helps reduce the risk of a low speed collision.

Performance is also derived from the standard Fiesta hatchback and buyers can choose from either a gasoline powered Duratec four cylinder engine good for 85 horsepower, or a pair of Duratorq turbo-diesels capable of producing 75 and 95 horsepower respectively. While all three engines will not make the Fiesta Van a star at the local racetrack, cargo capacity is affected by which engine is equipped, but ranges from 1,069 lbs to 1,119 lbs.

Interested in putting a 2013 Ford Fiesta Van in your garage? The company has opened up ordering for the new model with the first deliveries expected to arrive at a local Ford dealer near you in early January. While it is currently unknown whether Ford has plans to offer the 2013 Fiesta Van in the U.S. market, expect the model to remain a Europe-only offering.

  1. In the past, Renault once offered the first and 2nd-gen Clio as a “panel van” or “sedan delivery” in the UK but they dropped it. If the Fiesta van is successeful enough, it could be interesting to wonder if Renault might bring back the Clio Van?
